Niranj K J, a Diploma student in Interior Design, earned the Jury’s Choice award at the JD Design Awards 2024 in Kochi for his remarkable project “The Skate Club.” This innovative roller skate club in Thrissur is designed as a dynamic indoor recreational facility that immerses visitors in the vibrant nostalgia of the 1980s. The project’s core is a multi-functional rink that caters to roller skating, roller derby, and other indoor sports, all within a setting that celebrates the bold and colorful aesthetics of the 80s. The Skate Club offers more than just a place to skate; it’s a cultural experience where every detail, from the neon lighting to the geometric patterns, echoes the energy and excitement of the decade.
The design of The Skate Club is a meticulous homage to 80s retro culture, creating an atmosphere where visitors of all ages can relive or discover the era’s charm. The interior features bold colors, neon accents, and geometric patterns reminiscent of classic arcade games, ensuring that every corner of the club is a feast for the senses. The rink, with its vibrant floor designs and walls adorned with retro motifs, serves as the centerpiece of the space.
