INDUSTRIAL VISIT FOR INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENTS AT IKEA
On 18th December, JD Institute of Fashion Technology held a field trip to IKEA for their Interior Design course students. The subjective behind this trip was for the students to understand the products, furnishing, materials and current trends in the industry. The students were exposed to the various aspects that needed detailed attention and information about. The first being Furniture. The trip started with furniture display in different set ups for students to understand the colour schemes for various themes and how much of an important role, furniture plays in interior designing.
The next was the light fixtures. Modern interior designers know the importance of approprite types lighting in any residential space. Through this trip the students under stood how Lighting design plays a key role in creating the right mood and adjusting the ambiance of interior spaces. Interior designers have different lighting resources that help create functional spaces that can adjust to those specific needs of their clients.
The third most important element was fabrics. Through this section the students understood how Fabric adds colours to the interior, whether home or office. The colours can vary according to the place – bright, warm colours for homes and dark, subtle hues for offices. Fabric colour should be chosen in accordance with the furniture, since the blend of those two adds to the overall effect the theme of the interior suggests. Also, how the designs can vary from traditional, embroidery, cross-stitch, etc.
In conclusion the field trip at Ikea helped the students to understand the visuals of how the elements of interior design help each other to achieve an overall theme or design.
