The Art of Fold | Draping exhibition by Fashion department
One of the most important parts of fashion designing is fashion draping. It is the art of wrapping fabric directly onto the dress form in three dimensions and the most creative way for a designer to turn design ideas into reality. Draping can also be a way to explore different ways to construct a garment, therefore, being a vital part of learning fashion. JD Institute of Fashion Technology gives students a very comfortable and resourceful environment to adopt the art of draping which makes their learning easy.
After the rigorous classroom training and sessions, on March 1st, 2019, students of Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design batch turned their vivid imagination into reality and presented creative drapes through an exhibition themed OPERA ASTRATTA.
Students had taken inspiration from some exotic flora and fauna, different art forms, and travel places. Creativity dwelled from one garment to another. One side of the corner featured a look inspired by horns of an animal. Students played with layers and placed horns at the back to make it look fierce. Whereas Graffiti inspired a student to make a garment stiff with canvas, and a circular skirt was used to show flare and ripples.
It is true that creativity is boundless. Tattoos inspired a student to create an Avant Guard garment with pleats and ruffles which was spray painted.
From plain greige muslin fabric to colorful flowy satin fabrics, the garments varied from shapes, silhouette, and details which were very interesting and eye-catching and made the exhibition a success.
