International Day of Education is commemorated on the 24th of January as a day of observance which was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on the 3rd of December, 2018. This day was adopted as a resolution to celebrate the role and contribution of Education in bringing Global Peace and Sustainable Development across the world.

The very first celebration of International Day of Education was observed on the 24th of January 2019. This year, International Day of Education will be celebrated for the 4th time, therefore, it will be visualized to proclaim that education comes under the basic needs of every person. Recognizing this vigilantly, the UN’s general assembly has made it possible to spread the message to every nook and corner of the globe and has showcased a clear impact.
The goal behind celebrating this day is to achieve Sustainable Development Goal. The main aim and priority of celebrating this day is to spread the awareness that education is essential for the success of all 17 of its sustainable goals. Therefore, this day is initiated as an umbrella that not only shelters and covers the extended motives of the United Nations and the message is conveyed through this day.

A virus that has turned the world upside down and changed the course of history. The spread of this fatal disease was quick and unusual and it rattled the entire globe. As the spread of this disease was through air and touch or the things that the virus becomes inhabited too, millions of people came under the effect of this virus and in no time made the entire world to be caged in their homes. To this, education was no exception as huge gatherings or gathering in general became impossible. The governments were compelled to close the educational institutes and also lock down sectors so the alarming spread of the virus could be escaped. Therefore, under the strict lockdown and in this period of absolute fear and anxiety, education was a hope, motivation, guidance, a supporter and a well-wisher.
Education has been conducted in the conventional method of offline teaching. However, this was impossible with the current situation of the on-going pandemic. This unexpected situation did shick the educational institutes, but did not demotivate it. The institutes were very quick to adapt themselves to the online mode of education. Even the older generation of teachers/lecturers took it as a challenge and learnt and advanced as per the requirements of educating the young minds online. Although the pandemic did bring in immense negativity, it also bought in just as much positivity as well as learning aspects.

Evolution of Education in the Design Field
Design is now one among the most chosen fields of education. This was not the same before. Design education has grown and evolved to build itself a recognition in the educational industry. Design is the base of all things that is used in our day to day activity. Front eh simple pen that we use to note down some important details to the beds that we rest after a long day of work. However, this was not recognized or appreciated among many conventional educationists for reasons of not being under the human service sector. This opinion was soon changed as the youth of our nation came up and began to pursue their passion and showcase their work with the help of design thinking and design process. In 2011, Design education was recognized in India and has flourished ever since. It is now also a crucial part of the working industry, as design is not just involved in the lifestyle sector, but also the engineering and medical sector. From the surgical masks to the engineering tools are all created with the basic understanding of Design Thinking and Design Process.
Not only has Design Education supported the UN’s movement of spreading awareness on Sustainability, but has also encouraged the young aspiring minds to curate their designs keeping in mind the concept of Sustainability. The awareness of Sustainability has spread far and wide with the help of various shows and exhibitions held by artists and designers across the globe. Design Institutes have, in the last decade proven to have exhilarated and helped in various environmental and social causes.
International Day of Education is celebrated as a reminder on how important education is for not just the growth of an individual, but also the growth of an economy.
