Alumnus of JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore, Akshay Rao, was featured in the fashion magazine ‘Elléments’, for his sustainable fashion collection ‘Denimed Out’. Ellément Fashion Magazine is the fastest growing editorial publication which focuses on the new generation of Fashion and Beauty.

Akshay Rao is a graduate in BSc. Fashion and Apparel Design from JD Institute of Fashion Technology. His fashion collection was inspired by the theme ‘Up-cycling and Sustainability’.

What is ‘Sustainability’? It is the ability to maintain and avoid the depletion of any natural resource that may cause extinction of life on earth, and that is exactly what our alumnus fashion designer has aimed at by created a denim collection called ‘Denimed Out’.

This fashion collection falls under the ‘Prêt’ or ‘Ready-to-wear’ category of clothing. In this collection, as a Fashion Designer looking to create a sustainable environment, Akshay was inspired to reduce the pollution caused by the fashion industry. A denim jean takes over 75 to 85 liters of water to be manufactured along with enormous amount of chemicals which flow into the ocean causing extinction of aquatic life whereas, each denim designed in this fashion collection has reduced the wastage of water by 80%, i.e., with an approximate of 15 liters of water was used for each garment on this entire sustainable fashion collection. Although our alumnus did not just stop at that, he took into consideration the other pollutants such as plastic bottles and fishing nets to accessorize his denim collection.

Alumnus, Akshay Rao has not only brought about awareness but has also proven that every fashion designer’s collection is in-cooperated with an environmental purpose and awareness. At JD Institute of Fashion Technology, every student is mentored and pushed to be the most creative among the new generation of fashion designers. Every student is made to think out of the box to create an eco friendly design that only benefits the designer himself but also plays a major role in creating a sustainable environment through their sustainable fashion collection.
