Pattern Drafting Display By Diploma In Fashion Design, November 2021 Batch
Fashion Design is an ever evolving field that covers a very important aspect of human life. The curriculum of Fashion Design study at JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore is curated with in-depth research and the pedagogy helps the future fashion designers to achieve the maximum through the course. Throughout the course duration, students learn the fundamentals of fashion design such as pattern making, stiching, embroidery, draping, garment constructions and more. In order to understand and gauge the understanding of the students, projects are given where the Jediiians showcase their design sensibility and receive the feedback from the Industry experts working with the institute.
Module end displays are a significant part of the curriculum of JD Institute, Bangalore, where the students showcase their understanding and learnings about a particular module from their course structure. The Diploma in Fashion Design November 2021 batch on 13th April, 2022, gave way to their understanding of pattern drafting through a small scale display. In the exhibition, the fashion design students used the newspaper, craft paper, pattern making paper to create a design. Ahead of the display, students learnt how the patterns have to be drafted, the right method of measuring dress form. They also learnt the fundamentals of calculating and drafting basic pattern sets for the front, back, sleeves of a dress. Along with it, the aspirants also gained knowledge of the foundation of a few basic techniques needed to draw a princess line, trouser and Indian wear garments.
For the display, students took inspiration from different sources and brought their ideas forward through the unique designs. One group of students found their inspiration from the Iron throne of the famous series ‘Game of Thrones’ while another went for the vibrant color of watermelon and through their creativity tried to encapsulate the aesthetics of the fruit. The students in order to perfect their design idea, went with various patterns like fan folding, piping, scallop and more and brought forward a garment which can be functional as well as pleasing to the eyes.
Moreover, the fashion design aspirants were also given the opportunity to explain their design to the visitors and quench their queries. The faculty members from other design departments also visited the display and gave their valuable feedback that would aid the students in the long run.
