Textile Trends 2022

Textile trends 2022 as with any other forecasting are determined each year in prior to facilitate textile mills and companies to take inspiration for their production, based on textiles’ predicted and estimated demand. Textiles sustain the functioning and practice of many industries such as fashion, accessories and home, and their production impacts them subsequently. Last year in 2020, the textile industry suffered from a decline in demand for the first time due to the effect of the pandemic. It is estimated that the momentum of textile demand and supply will take time, at least 2023 for it to bounce back into full effect. With the adopting of a ‘work from home’ approach, textile production has been directed to a more leisure and comfort-oriented approach, while demand for natural textiles that is sustainable in its concept and production is seeing an increase. Textile trends 2022, which are a continuation of previous year’s response are as follows:

Knitted textiles

With the increase in the demand for street-wear fashion in the past five years, textile companies that cater to formal suits are witnessing a transition to adopting fabrics that are relaxed, comfortable and breathable. Traditional textile suit manufacturers are producing lightweight textiles that are breezy and thermoregulatory. Along with this, such fabrics are incorporating knitting processes, making them adaptable to stretch which caters to today’s customer who wants easy-care textiles without compromising on its formal nature. Suiting fabrics are becoming thinner, natural and more eco-friendly in their approach.

2.Printed textile: Stripes and motifs

Textile Trends 2022

Smart textiles

Textile trends 2022 are seeing an increase in the manufacture of biodegradable fabric and bio-based textile. Making fabrics from various waste materials such as seaweed and crab shells, textile companies are making fabrics that are purposeful and innovative which are smooth and fluid at the same time. Performance textiles are seeing an increase in production that are made through jacquard weaving, as well as coated textiles in matte and glossy finish. With an increased consciousness of material usage and textile recycling, there is an increased importance for smart textiles that incorporate ideas of biodegradable fabric and compostable textile.

Textile trends 2022 are witnessing an increase in a more conscious approach to making textiles. With the current climate issues along with the waste management problems that the world is facing, global textiles as well as the textile industry in India is impacted. With the pandemic, more waste is being generated, and an approach to make textiles more innovative to protect oneself is being explored. This exploration of textile is supported at JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bengaluru’s M.Sc. in Fashion and Textile Design.
