Breathable Fabrics provide much need reprieve during the summer season. The worst part of the hot weather is the sticky and sweaty feeling. So, during this season garments made of breathable fabrics are the best materials to wear. This ensures that the wearer is comfortable during the rise in temperatures and humid conditions.

Here are lists of summer fabrics that are perfect to wear when the weather gets hot.



Cotton is the most suitable fabric for hot climate. It is cheap and massively available. Due to its soft, lightweight and breathable properties it is known to soak up sweat, allowing heat to escape the body, thus helping to stay cool. Cotton is available in limitless styles and colours. There are also a variety of cotton blends that have different qualities. However, cotton gets wrinkled quite easily, but a cotton polyester blend will keep from having to iron.

Linen fabric

Linen is another fabric of choice for hot weather conditions. It is very light and is loosely woven which allows heat to escape from the body. It absorbs moisture and dries quickly, keeping the person cool and dry. It tends to be stiff, but does not stick to the body. Linen also wrinkles often, but a lot of people prefer it to make a style statement.

Rayon fabric

Rayon is a man-made fabric blended from cotton, wood pulp, and other natural fibres. It was invented as a cheaper alternative to silk. Rayon has very thin fibres, which allows breathing and gives it a lightness that prevents it from sticking to a body in hot weather. Rayon is very good fabric for sportswear and summer dresses. While a great fabric for hot weather, rayon can shrink when washed in warm water. You can hand wash it in cold water, but it is recommended to dry clean rayon to avoid shrinkage or damage.

Khadi fabric

Khadi is a handwoven fabric, it is spun with cotton and at times wool and silk. The versatile fabric is skin friendly especially for the Indian weather conditions. It is skin friendly that is breathable and is free of chemicals. The fabric is also advantageous as it does not wear out easily.

Denim fabric

Denim is made from very tightly woven cotton, so it is breathable and sweat absorbent just like cotton. But, denim is a heavier fabric, which is why some people prefer chambray. Chambray is like imitation denim, so it has all of the same benefits as denim, but is a lot lighter in weight.

Seersucker fabric

The lightweight fabric is like a breath of fresh air. It is often chequered or striped. Since has wrinkled appearance in places as it is woven in such a manner that some threads end up bunching together. Seersucker fabric is mostly used for summers or spring season.

Jersey fabric

A lightweight material, the jersey fabric is apt for summer and won’t wear the wearer down. Garments made of jersey fabric are available as a top, dress and loungewear.
