‘Interior Styling’ was a Conv. (Conversations) webinar organized on 11th August 2021 by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru as a part of the institute’s 3C’s series – Conv. (Conversations), Comm. (Community), and Conf. (Conference).

3Cs is an initiative of JD Institute of Fashion Technology that aims to bring together practitioners, researchers, and students who have been a significant part of their professions and interact with our students on various thoughts, disciplines and perspectives corresponding to their profession.

Interior Styling has escalated to become a core part of designing interiors. The one hour session with Ar. Priyadarshini emphasized the role of interior stylists and interior designers in designing functional and aesthetically pleasing interiors of uncompromising high standards.

The conversation swiftly dove into the role of interior stylists in expressing the state of mind and personality of the individuals living in the interiors. The word interiors is often misunderstood. The word interiors in the realm of interior design is not restricted to residential interiors and the speaker in the conversation rightly highlighted the widened arena of streams in which interior stylists have the opportunity to work.

The webinar also touched deeper aspects of the profession of interior styling and its fundamental difference with the responsibilities of interior designers. It is at this point of the conversation that Ar. Priyadarshini featured the role of interior stylists as a professional who gets involved with the interior styling of interiors at the final stages of the project.

Continuing the discussion, the speaker also gave insights about the basic principles of interior styling and how these principles including rhythm, balance, unity, proportion and scale, harmony, emphasis and details are at the core of designing aesthetically pleasing interiors. Post this, the speaker continued to talk about the elements of interior styling that interior stylists are bound to work under the boundaries of.

What qualities make a great interior stylist? This is a common question aspiring interior stylists and designers always have. Throwing spotlight on this aspect, the speaker pointed to the qualities of a true interior stylist that help them sail to the top of their profession. From understanding the client’s vision and aspirations to being able to sync in the current design trends into the interiors, the webinar mentioned that interior stylists should be capable enough to design interiors that are an amalgamation of trends and classic styles of interior styling.

Furthermore, the discussion on interior styling brought to the center stage the need to find one’s own design style as an interior stylist. It was at this point of the webinar the speaker mentioned that every interior stylist is inherently affiliated to a design style. She continued to say that finding this design style is what distinguishes one interior stylist from another.

The session continued to throw spotlight on the different styles in design that facilitate interior stylists through the course of designing interiors. The speaker dissected the features of the numerous styles of interior styling and design that have formed the core of the profession.

Interior Styling was JD Institute of Fashion Technology’s venture to provide aspiring interior stylists industrial exposure about life in the field of interior styling.
