3Cs is an initiative of JD Institute of Fashion Technology that aims to bring together practitioners, researchers, and students who have been a significant part of their professions and interact with our students on various thoughts, disciplines and perspectives corresponding to their profession.
The one-hour session was conducted by Nirmal Harindran, a senior photojournalist from The Indian Express newspaper. The conversation began with a brief introduction into the expert’s career along with emphasizing how he was driven by the marvel of the lens at a time when photography and digital media had not found their place in the world.

As a senior photographer in the industry of photojournalism, Nirmal Harindran highlighted that the quality of a true photographer lies in the drive to work every day irrespective of the hardships the industry may throw at you.
The webinar elucidated Nirmal Haridndran’s career as a photographer through some of his finest shots and pointed out the significance of a photographer as a storyteller who brings out the emotion and essence behind the shot.
The essence of storytelling
Photography as a career is not a regular 9 to 5 grind. As Nirmal Harindran pointed out in the webinar, if storytelling is the utmost priority in the photographer’s mind, other factors that curtail the purpose are subconsciously ignored by the photographer.
In 2021 where digital media has got to grips with storytelling, the speaker touched on various aspects of storytelling through photography and mentioned that a phone camera is an equally significant player in storytelling.
