Designers Chaitra K. and Seema Amrin’s collection, “Beauty of Life”, means don’t just exist live. It was inspired by the work of street artists Luis Seven Martins also known as L7M and Benjamin Shine.
Street Art is a visual art created in public locations on building walls which is outside the periphery of traditional art forefronts. It was initially associated with graffiti and vandalism, whereas now the artists create street art to talk about social messages or just present the beauty of their art to the audience. Brazilian street L7M merges strong, bold, and striking geometric shapes with natural elements to create his works. He captures both the elegance and graceful movement of birds. The eyes of his subjects appear to look straight at the viewers. On the other hand, British artist Benjamin Shine, works with tulle fabric to create abstract realistic artworks. He is also known in the fashion industry for his creations made from lengths of tulle fabric which he interprets as “painting with fabric”. He is a multi-disciplinary artist who has designed for clothing, furniture and public artworks.
The designers have explored street art through their collection, wherein they focused mainly on contemporary patterns, fabric and surface manipulation, embroidery and innovative techniques. It explores art, imagination, colors, and expressions. The collection was a line of Autumn/Winter – 19/20 Women’s Wear Collection. The garments were constructed using wool felt fabric, white suede, black tulle and marble satin. The colours used were pastel green, pink, grey and white. The works of the artists were represented with the use of embroidery and tulle.
