At the JD Design Awards 2025,Meha and Hannsika’s collection, Ayaatana, winner of the Mindful Craftsmanship award, is a thoughtful exploration of the theme “Pause—Prioritize a Unique Sense of Ease”—a meditative moment to stop, rethink, and gracefully move forward. Centered on marriage as a pivotal life transition, the collection reflects on the sanctity of beginnings and the inner stillness required before stepping into a new chapter.
Rooted in South Indian traditions, Ayaatana reimagines native attire such as sarees and dhotis presenting them in a modest light. Instead of indulging in heavy, ornate bridal looks, the designers focus on class, simplicity, and emotional depth, crafting garments that embody meaning over excess.

At the heart of Ayaatana lies craftsmanship with intention. The collection employs herbs used in marriage rituals—tulsi, neem, turmeric—as natural dyes, infusing fabrics with both cultural symbolism and healing properties. This commitment to sustainability honors age-old traditions while embracing eco-conscious practices. The restrained palette of bottle green, ivory, and teal mirrors the reflective essence of “pause”: grounding, purity, and depth.
Further deepening the narrative, the collection integrates Pattachitra motifs, an intricate storytelling art form. Symbols such as the Celestial couples are reinterpreted onto textiles, echoing themes of growth, purity, divine union, and new beginnings. These motifs transform garments into living canvases, merging art with attire.

Ayaatana exemplifies Mindful Craftsmanship by balancing heritage and sustainability, artistry and functionality. Every detail—from dyeing to motif placement—is intentional, carrying forward the philosophy that garments should not only adorn but also nurture. With its meditative aesthetic and rooted symbolism, Ayaatana invites wearers to pause, reflect, and step into marriage with grace, mindfulness, and cultural pride.
