Imperfect Folds, recipient of the Special Jury Recognition for Conceptual Design Award, is a collection that finds poetry in imperfection and meaning in resilience. Inspired by the idea that every crease tells a story, the garments are built around pleating and crushed effects—symbolising the struggles, pauses, and hardships that shape a person’s journey.

The collection challenges the traditional pursuit of flawlessness, instead embracing folds and irregularities as metaphors for inner strength. A palette of white, brown, beige, and black grounds the pieces, evoking simplicity and depth while highlighting the raw honesty of the theme.
Through thoughtful use of breathable fabrics and unforced silhouettes, the designs balance structure with softness. Presented through power dressing silhouettes, the garments channel strength while retaining a sense of vulnerability, offering a new vision of confidence. Each garment is minimal yet profound, carrying forward the message that beauty lies not in perfection, but in the lived experiences reflected through texture, form, and detail.

In alignment with JDDA 2025’s theme PAUSE – Prioritising a Unique Sense of Ease, Imperfect Folds reflects on life’s hardships and moments of stillness, translating them into garments that are expressive yet comfortable. Much like crumpled paper that carries the imprints of its journey, every fold and crease within the collection becomes a symbol of resilience and authenticity. It shows that fashion can balance modern relevance with lived experience, making it not just wearable but deeply meaningful.
