KELVRA is a trailblazing experimental ready-to-wear fashion collection by Mahima Adnani & Sahana K, inspired by the moods of the stars and the mind-boggling depths of the ocean. Its foundation is a trailblazing material innovation—a structured, leather-like textile made from kelp, possibly the most sustainable sea material on the planet. This material is symptomatic of the designers’ commitment to sustainable design, wherein every piece is made keeping its end in mind—biodegradable, adaptive, and nature-friendly.

The series explores the duality of comfort and shelter in modulated forms with detachable kelp-derived outer shells over soft, plant-based cloths. The forms are a paradox; they are both solid and fluid, referencing the kelp forest’s progressiveness, the form of orbital rings, and the stratification of star atmospheres. KELVRA’s colour scheme is cosmic-inspired and muted tones of colours.

While doing this futuristic collection, Sahana K and Mahima Adnani faced a lot of challenges, including limited research funding, difficulty in sourcing raw materials, and weather conditions such as Bangalore’s unpredictable climate. Regardless of these challenges, they were able to produce a cutting-edge, eco-friendly, and contemporary fashion collection—a real material statement that foresaw fashion’s contribution to a restorative future.
KELVRA isn’t “a collection.” It’s a living, breathing experiment in what fashion can be in the future. It’s all about transformation, circularity, and nature taking its course. Science, style, a dash of magic, and a whole lot of drive.
