Kintsugi: A Tribute to designer Zuhair Murad

Kintsugi, was designed by Deesha H Ranka and Sameera Maheen, students of BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design at JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology for JD Design Awards 2023. The collection paid tribute to renowned fashion designer Zuhair Murad.

Zuhair Murad used to explore the world of FANTASY. At the age of 10, he started sketching showing his talents. He began his career with a growing private client. His designs are simple but aesthetically pleasing, glamorous and contemporary.

Inspired by his way of creating garments and giving meaning to simple objects and a face to his fantasies, the young fashion designers through this collection aspire to display the beauty of broken objects that can still be turned to mesmerizing art, creating an evening wear couture collection to embody the Resin artwork.

The kintsugi technique is a form of adorning broken ceramics with a lacquer mixed with powdered gold. In an age of mass production and quick disposal, learning to accept and celebrate scars and flaws is a powerful lesson in humanity and sustainability. The collection resonates Resin with the broken ceramic pieces and the process of joining them to create an astounding collection representing the Broken but Beautiful.
