Lenthook: A Tribute to Ecological Design Consultant Kate Fletcher

Lenthook was designed by Minakshi and Nandini Singh, students of BSc. in Fashion and Apparel Design at JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bengaluru for JD Design Awards 2023. The collection is a tribute to Kate Fletcher, Professor of Sustainability and Design at the University of the Arts London. Her contributions have helped to define and influence the field of fashion sustainability. She collaborates with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and fashion companies. Her work is grounded in natural principles and engages with cultural creative elements such as fashion and design. Her efforts over the past 2 years have introduced design thinking to the fields of fashion, textiles, and sustainability. Slow fashion is the idea behind ‘Lenthook.’ Paying ode to their inspiration, they used old denim outfits and deconstructed them in various ways. As part of the slow fashion concept, they used thinly cut denim to use the crochet technique to create the garments. They wanted to make something that is handcrafted, needed deconstruction skills, and is sustainable. Women’s streetwear Spring Summer 2023–24 is the focus of the collection.
