“Mathruveda ” collection is designed by Harsha C, student from MSc in Fashion Design & Management at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi and winner of “BEST PRÊT-À-PORTER COLLECTION ” Award, celebrates an innovative fashion collection inspired by the poignant South Indian folktale Parayi Petta Panthirukulam that explores the emotional and spiritual journey of motherhood.
Inspired by the poignant South Indian folktale Parayi Petta Panthirukulam, “Mathruveda” is a Spring-Summer 2025 maternity wear collection that explores the emotional and spiritual journey of motherhood. It celebrates the quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering faith embodied by the unnamed Parayi woman—a mother who gave birth to twelve children and selflessly let each one go, trusting the world to shape them.
Her story is one of profound sacrifice and unconditional love, a reflection of the universal maternal experience. “Mathruveda” draws on this powerful narrative to design clothing that offers both comfort and meaning to modern mothers, particularly those navigating pregnancy and early motherhood.
The collection focuses on garments that adapt to the changing body while offering timeless appeal and postnatal usability. Key silhouettes include wrap dresses, empire-line tunics, layered ensembles, and kaftans, all crafted from soft, breathable fabrics such as organic cotton, linen, muslin, and bamboo jersey.
The color palette embraces warm neutrals, soft whites, earthy browns, dusky rose, and deep indigo, evoking both the calm of maternal care and the cultural richness of Kerala. Delicate prints and embroidery inspired by traditional Kerala motifs add storytelling depth to the designs, representing the invisible thread that connects mother and child.
“Mathruveda” is more than a clothing line — it is a tribute to motherhood in its purest form.
