Monocetra by Midhun SR

BSc in Fashion Design & Garment Management

Monocetra” collection is designed by Midhun SR, student from BSc in Fashion Design & Garment Management at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi celebrates an innovative fashion Mens and Women Avant garde  collection that is inspired by Cubism, emerging from the revolutionary spirit of Cubism .

Monocreta’ is an avant-garde fall/winter collection that fuses the structured resilience of denim with the ethereal fluidity of sheer fabrics, creating layered, abstract silhouettes inspired by the fragmented perspectives of Picasso and Braque—where bold geometry meets effortless motion for the modern trend lover who celebrates creativity and the art of movement.

This collection is a bold exploration of form, perspective, and sustainability, rooted in the philosophy of cubism and the creative reuse of denim. Drawing inspiration from the fragmented and abstract visual language of cubist art, the garments are constructed from geometric elements—particularly cubes and squares—joined meticulously with rivets and threads. These connectors not only serve a structural purpose but also reflect the collection’s conceptual framework of assembling diverse viewpoints into a cohesive whole.

At the heart of the collection lies denim, a universally recognized fabric with a strong cultural identity. By sourcing reused and discarded denim, the collection embraces a sustainable design approach that reduces environmental impact and promotes circular fashion practices. The visible history and variation within each piece of fabric enrich the narrative of the garment, turning every design into a layered story of transformation and renewal.

Each garment functions as a three-dimensional interpretation of cubist ideas, allowing multiple perspectives to coexist. From the designer’s perspective, each piece conveys a deliberate artistic message, while from the viewer’s point of view, the interpretation remains open and personal. This duality enhances the emotional and conceptual depth of the collection.

The repeated use of geometric patterns and structures—squares, cubes, and fragmented shapes—establishes a visual language that is both consistent and expressive. Through these forms, the collection challenges conventional silhouettes and invites the wearer to engage with fashion as both art and message.
