Rainbow Dazzlers- A Tribute to Maria Montessori
Rainbow Dazzlers is an exceptional project presented by Shahin Kausar Bashir Ahamad Bellur of JD School of Design at JD Design Awards 2023- Goa edition. The designer’s concept is to design a kindergarten in an open classroom concept which caters to the age group of 2-6. Shahin’s design pays tribute to Maria Montessori.
The idea behind Rainbow Dazzlers is to build a child-friendly school and to create a learning environment where kids are motivated to learn new things. Staff members treat children with kindness and welcomeness while taking care of all their health and safety requirements. The space also helps to build respect for other people’s views and ideologies as well as moral and religious convictions. Rainbow Dazzlers is a space that also builds children’s self-esteem and teaches them to value others along with encouraging kids to find their own pathway.
The designer wanted to tackle the most poignant issue. The designer noticed that a lot of children in her locality could not go to kindergarten because their parents could not afford it. Hence, she came up with Rainbow Dazzlers which is an affordable solution.
The materials used in this project are locally sourced. The key elements are laterite, wood, and glass which makes it sustainable. Other materials utilised are acrylic glass paint, Foam board, Mount board, Mirror sheets, Paper Cardboard, millboard, and more to give it a sturdy structure.
The colours that are used in this design are Red, Blue, and Yellow because brighter colours attract children more. The design concept, Rainbow Dazzlers, received the Best Concept of the Year award by JD Design Awards 2023.
