Serpentine by Siya NS

Diploma in Fashion Design

The “Serpentine ” collection is designed by Siya N S , student from Diploma in Fashion Design at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi celebrates an innovative fashion a  summer season collection inspired by the snake-charming Kalbelia dance culture in ‘RAJASTHAN’.

Serpentine means something that is like a serpent or snake—winding, sinuous, or curving in a smooth, flowing manner.

In the context of Kalbelia  dance:It refers to the graceful, snake-like movements performed by Kalbelia dancers. It also reflects the symbolism of the Kalbelia community, who are traditionally known as snake charmers.

The theme of pause in Kalbelia reflects the balance between action and stillness. It teaches us that in every journey, both physical and spiritual, there are moments that demand reflection and space for renewal. The dance does not only flow in the motion; it also flourishes in the silence between the beats, in the time taken to be—before moving on to the next step.

In the vast silence of the THAR DESERT, where dunes whisper stories to the wind, the nomadic Kalbelia tribe dances- not just to celebrate, but to survive, to remember to belong. Rooted in folk tradition and rhythm, sand and serpentine reimagines nomadic life through textile, movement, and spirit-a collection that breathes with the pulse of earth, fire, and freedom.

The colours and fabric Used are (BADHRI SILKS) , for this collection I choose the colours like deep maroon, royal blue, deep green, gold .adorned with mirror and colourful embroidery, creating a mesmerizing visual display that mirrors the mystery and beauty of the desert landscape. It shows the culture of Kalbeliya dance.
