The Garasia Edit: Weaving Heritage into Modern Resort Wear

Bhavanakumari Amararam Chowdhari - Diploma in Fashion Design

Bhavanakumari Amararam Chowdhari’s The Garasia Edit presents a Thanksgiving to a prolific cultural heritage of the Garasia Tribe of Rajasthan, modernised through the perspective of the women in resort wear. Scheduled for Spring/Summer, the collection blends traditional artistry with modern aesthetics to endow garments with meaning yet make them stylish.

The Garasia Edit is a storytelling act through fabric, embroidery, and silhouette. The collection opted for soft, breathing Marlin Crepe Roja Lime, mainly for its fluidity and comfort in a warm ambience and casual atmosphere. In his own way, inspired by the day-to-day lives and customary garments of Garasia women, Bhavanakumari reinterprets tribal motifs into light, elegant silhouettes that are wearable but still maintain a high respect for their origins.

The Mehndi Green and Terracotta palette evokes the rich, earthy energy of Rajasthan, the land and people alike, echoing the soul and earth of the Grasiya tribe. Embroidery is used in the conservative manner so that the movement and simplicity of the fabric can be highlighted while recognizing the craft of the past. Subtle vine patterns, blossoms, and symbolic patterns allude to the heritage of the tribe, a living portrait of cultural identity per garment.

But The Garasia Edit is not simply fashion—its a mission-driven endeavor to reinvigorate the focus on indigenous craftsmanship. By bridging the traditional embroidery world and the spaces of contemporary fashion, this collection provides the Garasia people with a chance to be observed, valued, and supported. It connects geography and generations, translating ancient craftsmanship into modern viability for today’s global consumer.

Bhavanakumari’s work stands as a reminder that style doesn’t have to sacrifice substance. The Garasia Edit celebrates heritage while offering a modern, elegant alternative to fast fashion.
