The Power of Fragments” collection is designed by Somy Johnson, student from MSc in Fashion Design & Management at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Kochi celebrates an innovative fashion in an Autumn/Winter 2025 PRET-A-PORTER Women’s Wear collection that explores the quiet strength and emotional complexity of womanhood. Inspired by Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, it reflects the experience of women who have been praised yet unheard, fragmented by expectations, but never truly broken.
At its heart, this collection tells the story of a woman slowly reclaiming herself. It’s about the journey from silence to voice, from being confined to finally stepping into the light. Every garment becomes a symbol of that transformation where the cracks aren’t hidden, but embraced as part of becoming whole.
Sharp, structured tailoring meets soft, flowing detail, representing the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability. The silhouettes carry presence; strong shoulders, precise cuts; but are softened by asymmetry, drapes, and layered fabrics. Velvet adds richness and depth, while lace brings in moments of transparency, hinting at the layers beneath the surface.
The colours in this collection speak with emotion rather than trend. Deep green feels grounding and quietly powerful. Burnt orange brings warmth, intensity, and the sense of something shifting from within. Plum tones invite reflection; they carry softness, sorrow, and strength, all at once.
