Empowering the Next Generation: AI Design Thinking at JD Institute – In Collaboration with Samsung & The Times of India
Being the representatives of two industry giants in media and innovation—Samsung and The Times of India—we are certain that the future of learning is where technology, creativity, and application intersect. That is precisely what we wished to put into action with our AI Design Thinking Workshop at JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore.
The instant we entered campus, there was electricity in the air. More than 70 inquisitive and entrepreneurial students were seated in the room, waiting to discover how design thinking facilitated by AI could help them master their finances—a useful, yet underappreciated, life skill.
The workshop did not utilise the traditional lecture format. Instead, we utilised interactive learning, from student debates to student-led presentations. It was great to see how the students took the brief and made the best out of it, combining creativity, practicality, and compassion to solve issues that concern them daily.
What was most impressive to us was the depth of involvement and critical thinking. These students weren’t merely learning about things—instead, they were co-designing solutions, critically evaluating assumptions, and celebrating collaboration, as they hashed out the intricacies of finance using a design framework. Particularly delightful to see was how fluidly they wove in technology and human-centred design principles into the development of concepts that were not only innovative but well-grounded in practical application.
We innovate to improve lives at Samsung. We inspire and educate at The Times of India. We, together, wish to acquaint students with problem-solving through AI, empowering them to think differently, respond fast, and lead responsibly.
The experience at JD Institute left us with a positive feeling. Not just due to the potential that we realised existed among the students, but also because of the institute’s atmosphere, which fosters questioning, nurtures inquisitiveness, and embraces overall growth.
This workshop was just the beginning. We eagerly wait to have such discussions and work so that the future business leaders, intellectuals, and designers are not just capable of thriving, but also of remaking the future.
