JD Annual Design Awards 2016 – Untold Stories : “The Hook”
The collection is inspired by artist, Merlin Anish who started a small business of crochet work from her home to support her husband financially. Derived from French term which means small hook, Crochet is an art of creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn or thread using crochet hook. Crochet work was brought to India by Macrae from Scotland in the 20th century. The women of India took to crochet very quickly, mostly to create prayer rugs and Islamic caps. In a colour palette of cream, white and brown the straight cut, intricate single piece resort wear collection is an ideal choice for the free spirited woman of today. The collection is presented by Saleem jan, Ashwini.S and Vaishnavi from the April 2015 batch.
