Shining Brighter Each Year: JD Institute Students Make It to NJA 2025 Finals Again!

At JD Institute of Fashion Technology, excellence isn’t a one-time feat—it’s a tradition. We’re proud to share that for the fifth consecutive year, our Jewellery Department has secured a spot at the prestigious National Jewellery Awards (NJA) 2025, organised by the All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC).

And this time, the spotlight is on two exceptionally talented students: Ms. Mithra M and Ms. Sahana V, from the 2024 batch of our Diploma in Fine Jewellery Design (DFJD) program.

Out of 800+ entries from across India, Mithra and Sahana have made it to the Finals, standing tall as the only two finalists representing Karnataka. Their achievement is not just a personal victory—it’s a reflection of the passion, skill, and mentorship that defines JD Institute.

Glimpses from the Grand Jury

From well-structured concept boards to prototype displays, their presentations reflected an extraordinary depth of thinking and execution.

The Design Process: From Idea to Ornament

Both Mithra and Sahana’s collections were more than just jewellery—they were stories told through metal, stone, and form.

A design of spiritual statement in silver, this head ornament draws from the ancient chakra system — with seven vertically aligned gemstones symbolising energy and consciousness. Framed in a mandala, moonstone cabochons and cascading pearls mirror the aura’s flow. Rooted in Indian philosophy yet designed for modern elegance, it’s more than adornment — it’s a wearable emblem of harmony, tradition, and grace.

“Throughout my NJA journey, the involvement of my mentor, Ms. Rupali, has been invaluable. From the initial stages of conceptualising the project to the final execution, Ma’am consistently provided direction, encouragement, and guided me in aligning my work with industry standards. She instilled confidence, discipline, and a strong design ethic in all of us during the process. By encouraging me to analyse my strengths and address my weaknesses, she shaped not just my project but also my overall growth as a budding designer. Her constant support and belief in my potential were instrumental in reaching the NJA final round, and I owe much of my progress and success to her guidance,” Sahana expressed.

Mithra M’s Collection – “Nishikigoi”

Nishikigoi — The Dragon’s Gaze is more than eyewear — it’s a symbol of resilience. Inspired by the koi’s journey to become a dragon, this gold frame flows with coral, jade, and pearl, echoing strength, growth, and transformation.

“I’m grateful to Rupali Ma’am for her support in my journey since day 1. Her involvement for all of us learn, encouragement, and guidance helped me improve my skills and believe in myself.  Her insights and advice helped in shaping the outcome of this work. I’m grateful for the time and effort she made to make this outcome possible. This award reflects her dedication as a mentor. I am truly grateful to JD institute for bringing us this kind of mentor whose effort is always for us to grow in designing and in life,” shared Mithra while presenting her collection.

Every brilliant journey needs a mentor, and for our finalists, Ms. Rupali Sarkar has been the constant guiding force. “Watching their growth from concept ideation to final execution has been deeply fulfilling. I have only advised them to do everything as if it’s their only chance, strive for that perfect magic in design with true self-satisfaction to reach higher,” she shared.

Her structured critiques, motivation, and industry-relevant advice helped the students channel their creativity with precision and purpose.

The success seen at NJA 2025 is rooted in the design philosophy of our Diploma in Fine Jewellery Design program. Within just a year, students undergo a holistic journey that includes: Industrial and field visits, heritage city explorations (Hyderabad, Agra, Jaipur), real-world briefs and live jury simulations, 1-on-1 mentorship sessions and exposure to national design platforms. It is this rigorous yet nurturing structure that enables our students to compete—and shine—on platforms like NJA.

With the Grand Jury now complete, we eagerly await the Final Award Night, where winners will be announced. Mithra and Sahana have already proven themselves as leaders of tomorrow’s jewellery design world. Their work has elevated not just their personal portfolios, but also the reputation of JD Institute on a national scale.

To our stars, Mithra and Sahana—this is just the beginning.
The future of jewellery design is brighter because of you.
