INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO REID & TAYLOR FOR FASHION DESIGN STUDENTS
JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore organised an industrial visit for the 1st semester of Bsc in Fashion and Apparel Design students to Reid & Taylor Industries Private Limited, Nanjangud on 10th October 2019. The purpose of the visit was to gain a practical overview of their module “Fibre and Yarn Science”. The students were accompanied by their faculties Mr. Srinivasa Prasad, Ms. Pallavi and Ms. Roshni.
Reid & Taylor is one of the oldest British establishments and is synonymous for its premium apparel. The suiting brand was launched in India in 1998. Its mill in Nanjagund is state-of-the art and specializes in mass production of suitings, shirtings, etc. for the domestic and export market. Blends commonly manufactured at the plant are Polyester/Wool and Polyester/Linen or Polyester/Wool/Linen as per customer need.
The broad areas observed by the students were –
- Spinning
- Weaving
- Wet processing
The Design students were able to observe the various equipments, departments, workflow in real time etc. The visual engagement helped them understand the theoretical aspect of the module better and enhanced their knowledge on fibre and yarn.
