International Yoga Day – JD Institute of Fashion Technology

To celebrate the essence and importance of yoga in our lives, JD Institute of Fashion Technology organized a special talk session with two prominent and artistic people. Deepak Doraiswamy and Deepika Dorai, Founder of Bimba Art Ashram were invited to touch the lives of our students by sharing their knowledge and experience. With a key focus on art and spiritual journey, the couple inspired the crowd by talking about how we should live peacefully, by being deep-rooted to our Mother Earth. They also spoke about how art cannot be defined but is something that creates beauty to enhance and nurture life. Art is a quest, a stretch towards divinity and life revolves around simplicity. They believe that yoga is a union of our exterior self with our inner soul. Yoga makes us express individuality, by using our own strength and making all our body parts function in unison.

In 2001, they established Bimba: The Art Hut, at an antique space in the heart of Chennai. With a shared ideology towards working with earth sensitive art, the couple inculcated the handmade practice to celebrate Earth as a single medium to embellish and simplify life. To celebrate a modern yet indigenous lifestyle, they embarked on a new journey of starting The Art Ashram in 2011, at Bangalore. “The curiosity to engage with the classic arts, weaving, sculpting, tailoring, painting and dramatics by watching and learning activities through practice was the beginning of handmade art as a way of life for us”, said Mr. Deepak.

The knowledge shared was profound and left the crowd on a thought-provoking note of exploring and embracing life with simplicity, truth and sensitivity that has a reverence for Earth.
