January 2026 unfolded as a meaningful and energising month at JD Institute — one that brought together industry learning, cultural celebration, and student creativity. From insightful conversations with an industry expert to moments of togetherness and artistic expression, the campus reflected everything that design education stands for: growth, connection, and purpose.
1.Learning From Experience: An Industry Session With Prof. Gaurav Mondal
One of the key highlights of the month was a special session conducted by Prof. Gaurav Mondal for our final-year fashion students on 16th January 2026. The session focused on portfolio development, job scope, and real-world industry insights — topics that matter deeply to students standing on the threshold of their professional journeys.
Prof. Mondal brought not just knowledge, but also lived experience. A nationally awarded fashion designer with over 20 years of professional practice and 8 years in academia, his journey offered students a realistic and inspiring perspective on the fashion industry. From his academic foundation at NIFT Delhi to his Master’s in Fashion Marketing from Nottingham Trent University, UK, and his teaching roles at institutions like NIFT, Pearl Academy, and Lovely Professional University, his path reflected a balance of design, strategy, and education.
What resonated most with students was his candid discussion about what truly matters in a portfolio — clarity of thought, originality, and storytelling — along with honest insights into industry expectations. The session wasn’t just informative — it was reassuring, offering students clarity and confidence as they prepare to step into the industry.
2.Celebrating Togetherness: Pongal at JD Institute
January also brought moments of warmth and togetherness with the celebration of Pongal on campus. The potluck gathering transformed the institute into a space of shared stories, laughter, and home-style flavours. Students and faculty came together not just to celebrate a festival, but to experience the joy of community.
In a design environment where collaboration is key, such moments play an important role in building bonds beyond classrooms and studios — reminding everyone that creativity thrives where people feel connected.
3.Creativity With Purpose: Republic Day Poster Making Competition
On 23rd January 2026, the campus came alive with colour and ideas during the Republic Day Poster Making Competition, held across batches. The theme — “Republic of India: Freedom, Constitution & Unity” — encouraged students to explore patriotism through design.
Each entry reflected a unique interpretation of India’s democratic values, blending symbolism, colour, and thought. From abstract representations of unity to detailed visual narratives around the Constitution, the posters showcased not just artistic skill but a deep sense of responsibility and pride.
The competition served as a reminder that design is not only about aesthetics — it is also a powerful medium to express values, identity, and collective spirit.
A Month That Reflected the JD Spirit
January 2026 at JD Institute was a reflection of what holistic design education looks like — where industry exposure meets cultural awareness, and creativity is nurtured both inside and outside the classroom.
As the year moves forward, these moments continue to shape our students — helping them grow not just as designers, but as thoughtful, grounded individuals ready to engage with the world around them.
