As the rains soaked the city of Bengaluru in rhythm with fresh ideas and creative fervour, JD Institute of Fashion Technology was alive with colour, movement, and energy this August. From immersive displays and engaging workshops to cultural celebrations and industry interactions, the month was a vibrant blend of learning, showcasing, and connecting. Here’s a look back at the highlights that made August 2025 unforgettable for our design community.

Module-End Display: Showcasing Design Journeys

One of the most anticipated academic highlights this month was the Module-End Display, a visual and technical showcase by students preparing for the upcoming Design Festival Day (DFD), February 2025 – Batch A. This display wasn’t just about putting creative work on walls or mannequins—it was a celebration of how far students have come.

Drawing from modules such as Fabric Manipulation and Ornamentation, Fashion Illustration, Art and Costume Appreciation, and Textile Appreciation, students brought their ideas to life through textiles, silhouettes, surface techniques, and illustrations. Each piece was a personal statement—thoughtful, expressive, and rooted in a growing understanding of aesthetics, craftsmanship, and concept development.

The display served both as a platform for students to express their individual design voices and as a tool to assess their mastery of key techniques. It marked their transition from learners to emerging designers, ready to take on bigger creative challenges ahead.

Conscious Carpet Campaign: Fashion with Purpose

JD Institute’s commitment to sustainability found a meaningful expression this August as students participated in the Conscious Carpet Campaign, formerly known as Sustainable Fashion Week India. Held at Alliance Française, Vasanth Nagar, on the 15th and 16th of August, this event invited ten of our students to volunteer at an international short film festival with a strong sustainable fashion focus.

Our students contributed to the seamless execution of the event and assisted in a variety of engaging workshops, including dhoti and saree draping, embroidery demonstrations, and thoughtful discussions around sustainable fashion. These interactions offered more than practical event experience—they offered perspective. The campaign gave students the chance to meet a global, culturally diverse audience while reinforcing the idea that design can be both beautiful and responsible.

D5 Render Workshop: Turning Ideas into Immersive Visuals

Interior Design students from across MSc ID, BSc IDD, ADID, and DID streams explored the powerful world of digital visualisation in the D5 Render Workshop, held on the 7th of August at the JD School of Design campus.

This hands-on session introduced students to the world of real-time rendering—an essential skill for today’s interior and architectural designers. Students explored how to translate their design concepts into photorealistic visuals using lighting, material applications, environment settings, and more. From still images to walk-through animations, the workshop offered an immersive experience in crafting compelling presentations.

By the end of the workshop, students were not only proficient in using the D5 Render software but also gained a deeper understanding of how technology enhances storytelling in design. They left with sharper technical skills and a clearer vision of how to present their work to clients, faculty, and the design community at large.

Semester-01 End Jury Display: Laying the Foundation for Interior Design

The Semester-01 Jury Display for the Nov ’24 batch of Diploma in Interior Design students was another standout this August. It showcased the cumulative efforts of students across foundational modules such as Design Thinking, Material Sourcing, Drafting, Design Foundation, Space Design, AutoCAD, and VRay.

What emerged from the display was more than just sheets and models—it was the story of how young designers begin to think, solve, draw, and visualise. Each submission reflected an understanding of the nuances of space, function, aesthetics, and user experience. From learning how to source materials mindfully to mastering technical tools like AutoCAD and VRay, students demonstrated a well-rounded grasp of both the art and science behind interior spaces.

This display served as a powerful visual diary of their progress and passion, setting the stage for more advanced explorations in the semesters ahead.

August 2025 was a month of movement—of hands creating, minds questioning, and hearts connecting. From critical academic milestones and sustainability initiatives to cultural celebrations and new technological skills, every experience added another layer to our students’ growth as designers.
