JD Institute September Highlights: Displays, Awards & Industry Visits
Design Spotlights, National Laurels, and Industry Exposure: JD Institute September Highlights
September was a landmark month of artistic discovery, national recognition, and hands-on professional learning across our institution. From sweeping top honors at prestigious national platforms to exploring industrial manufacturing processes, interactive AI tools, and avant-garde fashion concepts, here is a detailed recap of our JD Institute September highlights.

Sweeping National Laurels: National Jewellery Awards 2026
Our jewelry department achieved extraordinary success at the National Jewellery Awards 2026 (NJA), organized by the All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC). Marking six consecutive years of rank-holding achievements, a record nine students reached the national finals simultaneously out of over a thousand participants nationwide:
- Student of the Year Category Winners: R. Gunavanti (B.Sc. JD 2024 Batch) and Hunar Jain (B.Sc. JD 2025 Batch) secured top honors. Finalists included Nidhi S., Chavi Jain, Hansika Jain, Harshitha D., Sunitha Renwal B., and V. Padmaja.
- Designer of the Year Category Winner: Alumni designer Ms. Mithra M. (DFJD 2024 Batch) won the coveted title for her nature-inspired concept piece.
- Inspiration & Concept: Hunar Jain’s winning piece drew inspiration from the sacred Vedic Agni Ahuti ritual and the Shruva spoon—translating sacred flames into an arm cuff, cascading chains, and a wrist bracelet.
Enrolling in a comprehensive jewellery design course gives aspiring creators the structural foundation to turn ritualistic, nature-inspired, and space-age concepts into award-winning art. This stellar national performance highlights how rigorous mentorship in jewellery designing prepares designers to excel on competitive luxury stages.

Creative Fashion Showcases: Avant-Garde, Draping & Surface Exploration
Our fashion department hosted several comprehensive module-end exhibitions highlighting conceptual design, surface manipulation, and garment construction:
- Avant-Garde Workshop Display: Students presented high-fashion, experimental concepts pushing the boundaries of traditional apparel design through unconventional silhouettes and structural forms.
- Diploma in Fashion Design Displays: Students presented project work across Fashion Theory, Art & Costume Appreciation, Fabric Manipulation & Ornamentation (FMO), Fashion Illustration, and Draping. Displays showcased technical proficiency in pleating, gathering, 3D texturing, and translating cultural psychology into garment aesthetics.
- The Living Thread Showcase: IV Semester students pursuing BSc Fashion and Apparel Design presented their semester-end projects. Each learner selected an Indian craft heritage and reinterpreted motifs, dyeing methods, and loom techniques into functional contemporary designs alongside their Apparel Production outputs.
Pursuing a structured fashion design course gives designers the technical platform to blend heritage techniques with contemporary styling.

Practical Learning: Industrial Exposure Visits
To connect classroom theory with large-scale industrial workflows, fashion students participated in specialized field visits:
- Wet Processing & Textile Finishing: B.Sc. Fashion Design students visited Viswas Textile Processor Pvt Ltd for their Textile Dyeing & Printing module. Students explored the complete transition from greige fabric to finished dyed textiles, observing industrial dye vats, printing machinery, lab testing processes, buyer quality standards, and effluent treatment plant (ETP) operations. Gaining practical clarity on dyeing and printing builds a solid foundation in textile science.
- Leather Manufacturing & Export Workflows: Students visited Bhartiya Fashions’ specialized leather jacket unit. As one of India’s premier leather apparel exporters, the facility gave students deep insights into the complete garment manufacturing process—including tannery processing, raw hide quality inspection, pattern cutting, and specialized leather stitching techniques.
Understanding raw material handling and commercial factory workflows is vital for anyone aiming to build a career in professional fashion designing.

Spatial Innovations: Interior Design, Surface Coatings & Retail Displays
The Department of Interior Design engaged students through national competition briefings, design thinking exhibitions, and 3D retail installations:
- Nippon Paint AYDA Awards 2026 Briefing: Conducted by Ms. Sahana Gowda from Nippon Paint, students were introduced to the theme “CONVERGE: Embracing Hyperlocal,” competition submission guidelines, and eligibility requirements for the Nippon Paint AYDA Awards.
- PLANTAG Coatings Design Challenge: Students explored advanced surface finishing solutions, JORA-COLOR, HYDROSTAIN coatings, and solid beech wood applications to design an iconic Hero Furniture Piece and immersive color experience for IndiaWood.
- Design Thinking Process Exhibition: Postgraduate MSc interior design students documented their complete iterative process—progressing from 2D/3D design elements through Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test stages to deliver user-centric spatial solutions. Applying a structured design thinking process enables designers to solve complex architectural challenges.
- Brand Window Display: Management students conceptualized commercial 3D storefront displays. By manipulating seasonal themes and design elements, they explored how strategic visual merchandising drives store traffic and customer purchasing decisions.
Succeeding in interior designing requires combining technical drafting with spatial logic and surface knowledge. Enrolling in a career-oriented interior design course ensures students build hands-on experience across material sourcing, surface coatings, and real-world design briefs.

Artistry, Tech & Global Mentorship: Fine Arts, AI & Seminars
- Eclectic Fine Arts Display: B.Des students presented an extensive 10-part exhibition covering self-portraits, watercolor techniques, charcoal sketching, poster-color chiaroscuro, visual contrast, design principles, artist replicas (Surrealism, Cubism, Abstract Art), character development from household objects, comic storytelling, and Gestalt principles of visual perception.
- Samsung AI Learning Workshop: Organized with Samsung, The Times of India, and Half Ticket Entertainment, this interactive AI workshop introduced students to AI fundamentals, productivity applications, and hands-on exposure to the Samsung AI ecosystem.
- UAL Portfolio Seminar: Final-year fashion students attended an exclusive portfolio development seminar delivered by experts from the University of the Arts London (UAL).

Cultural Partnerships: Handloom Celebrations & Government Honor
As an associate partner for “Threads of India” at Lulu Mall, Bengaluru (collaborating with GSKSJTI), our institution was felicitated by Mr. Rudrappa Manappa Lamani, Hon’ble Minister for Sugar and Textiles, Government of Karnataka. Students presented live loom demonstrations, curated visual merchandising installations featuring traditional Avantra sarees, and showcased Tie & Dye and Batik explorations on authentic handloom textiles.
Looking Ahead
These JD Institute September highlights demonstrate our dedication to academic rigor, industrial exposure, global mentorship, and artistic distinction. We look forward to seeing our students build on these milestones in the months ahead!
