Shibori, Charcoal & Beyond: How JD Hyderabad Redefined Creativity in April 2026

At JD Hyderabad, April 2026 showed up and delivered. From a vibrant Earth Day experience at Necklace Road to an immersive Creative Learning Weekend Series exploring Shibori, charcoal art, and eco-printing, students spent the month creating, experimenting, and growing. Our Interior Design Students carried that energy straight into CII, where industry conversations on sustainability pushed their thinking further. One month. Endless momentum. That’s the JD way.

Site Visit to CII:

A group of interior design students recently visited the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for an insightful deep dive into sustainable design practices. The visit offered a practical perspective on how the global shift toward green building is reshaping interior architecture and material selection. Students explored eco-friendly finishes and low-VOC surfaces, gaining a clearer understanding of how to specify materials that are both visually compelling and environmentally responsible. They also learned about the benchmarks behind IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) and LEED ratings — now essential standards in high-end commercial and residential projects. Beyond the technical, the visit opened their eyes to emerging career paths in green consulting, energy auditing, and sustainable design — a timely reminder that the future of interior design is as much about impact as it is about aesthetics.

For these future designers, the visit bridged the gap between creative vision and industry standards. They left with a deeper understanding of how to balance luxury and functionality with the urgent need for a circular economy in design.

A Creative Learning Workshop Series Episode 01 – Art of Shibori Dyeing:

Our Creative Learning Weekend Workshop Series opened with a compelling exploration of Shibori dyeing — one of Japan’s most celebrated textile traditions. Rooted in the ancient art of resist-dyeing, the workshop guided participants through a structured yet deeply creative process of fabric folding, binding, and dye immersion. Each step was designed to build both technical understanding and artistic intuition. As the finished pieces were revealed, the results spoke for themselves — intricate, unpredictable patterns that reflected the skill and creativity each participant brought to the craft, a powerful reminder that great design always begins with the hands.

A Creative Learning Workshop Series Episode 03 – Nature Imprinted: The Art of Eco Printing on Fabric:

The third session of our Creative Learning Weekend Workshop Series let nature take the lead. Through the art of eco-printing, participants transformed blank fabrics into living botanical compositions, using leaves, flowers, and organic matter as their medium. Each placement, each press, each pigment told a different story — and the results were as unpredictable as they were stunning. No dyes, no digital tools, just the raw beauty of the natural world printed onto textile. A session that proved the most extraordinary designs are often found growing outside. learned to influence the final outcome, ensuring that every creation was a unique reflection of their artistic journey.

Earth Day Awareness Drive 2026:

The open grounds of Necklace Road transformed into a living gallery as JD Hyderabad students unveiled  striking installations, each telling a distinct environmental story through design, material, and message.

Natural fabrics in earthy ochres and blush tones were draped across tree branches and displayed alongside handwritten notes on eco-conscious clothing choices. The message was simple but powerful: fashion doesn’t have to cost the earth. By tracing the journey from raw, organic material to wearable garment.

These Installations created a cohesive outdoor exhibition where creativity served activism. From the delicate drape of natural fabric to the brutal honesty of a globe made of trash, students of JD Hyderabad demonstrated that design is never neutral — it reflects values, choices, and consequences. exactly what it needed to be: a place where art and accountability met in the open air.

A beautiful mural brought to life by passionate students, open to anyone who wanted to pick up a brush and be part of something meaningful. Strangers became collaborators, and together they painted a vision of harmony, nature, and togetherness. Art has a way of uniting people — and this canvas is proof of that.

The message was clear — sustainability is not a one-day effort, but a continuous commitment. Through small, consistent steps, we can collectively move towards a greener and more responsible future.
