The collection is inspired by the leather puppets used in Togalu Gombeyaata. It is an ancient art form, much before the advent of radio, movies and television. The puppets are usually characters from the Hindu epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata. But with the advent of new era, personalities are also created using puppets. The collection brings back the old tradition of Indian art and culture and especially leather puppetry with a contemporary twist.

 

All the garments, including the accessories, incorporate the art of leather puppets in the form of prints and paintings, and also retain the essence of Indian traditional clothing that is very much in sync with today’s lifestyle. In a fabric story of raw silk and cotton, the collection feature an interesting blend of colors like red, black, white and gold. The collection celebrates the beauty of real India and its past yet complements modern aesthetics.

Titled ‘Strings Attached’ the mesmerizing collection was presented by Kavyashree Gangadhar, class of Bsc 2014. The collection also won the award for ‘Best Design Collection’.
