October was a month filled with creativity, exploration and hands-on learning at JD School of Design. From bringing miniature indoor ecosystems to life and experimenting with materials and textures to exploring artistic movements, fashion illustration and 3D visualisation, our Jediiians experienced design beyond the classroom.
Through workshops, module-end displays and creative projects, students explored new ideas, experimented with different techniques and transformed their imagination into meaningful design outcomes. Each activity reflected the spirit of learning through experience, innovation and creative expression.
- A Little Greenery, A Little Creativity and a Whole Lot of Learning!
As part of the Interior Landscape Design module, our students explored the art of creating miniature indoor ecosystems through an engaging hands-on terrarium-making workshop.
From selecting suitable plants to understanding layering, drainage, soil composition, activated charcoal, moisture management and plant care, students gained practical insights into designing and maintaining miniature green spaces.
The workshop offered a wonderful opportunity to connect nature with design, transforming classroom concepts into a creative and interactive learning experience.

- From Concepts to Compelling Visualisations –A glimpse into our SketchUp and V-Ray module-end display, where students showcased their creativity, technical expertise and ability to transform design concepts into immersive 3D visualisations.
Through digital tools and visualisation techniques, students explored how ideas can be developed into realistic spaces, bringing their design imagination closer to reality.

- Design Through Materials and Textures
The Interior Design 2025 batch at JD School of Design presented an impressive Material Board Display, showcasing thoughtfully selected materials, colours, finishes and textures.
The display highlighted how different material combinations contribute to the overall look, feel and functionality of residential spaces. Through this exercise, students explored the importance of material selection in translating design concepts into meaningful interior environments.

- From Art Movements to Inspired Table Settings
Design is not just about creating something beautiful; it is also about understanding the inspiration behind it.
Our students explored different art movements through their distinctive colours, textures, materials and forms, translating artistic influences into creative table arrangements.
As part of the Design Ideologies module, a DFD 2026 student presented her interpretation of Art Nouveau, exploring its nature-inspired forms, flowing lines and intricate patterns. She creatively translated these elements into a thoughtfully designed table arrangement.
This activity encouraged students to connect art history with contemporary design and discover how artistic movements can inspire everyday creative expressions.

- Fashion Illustration: Bringing Ideas to Life Through Art
A glimpse into the Fashion Illustration module-end display by our B.Sc. Fashion and Apparel Design 2024 batch.
The display celebrated students’ creativity, illustration techniques and evolving design skills. Through sketches, artistic expressions and fashion interpretations, students explored the process of translating their ideas into visual representations.
Each illustration reflected their growing understanding of fashion, design aesthetics and creative storytelling.

- Exploring the Art of Positive and Negative Space
Sometimes, the most interesting designs emerge from simplicity.
Our students explored the relationship between positive and negative space through creative black-and-white paper compositions. Using techniques such as cutting, reflection and contrast, they experimented with shapes, patterns and visual balance to create unique compositions.
This exercise helped students understand the importance of space, proportion and visual relationships in design while encouraging them to think creatively and explore unconventional possibilities.

Designing Today, Inspiring Tomorrow!
October at JD School of Design was a celebration of creativity, practical learning and artistic exploration. Each workshop, project and module-end display provided students with an opportunity to discover new perspectives, strengthen their technical abilities and express their individual design identities.
At JD School of Design, we believe that great designers are shaped through curiosity, experimentation and experience. By encouraging our Jediiians to think beyond boundaries and learn through hands-on experiences, we continue to nurture creative minds who are ready to make their mark in the world of design.
