Onam, a festival of equity and happiness, was celebrated at JD Institute Of Fashion Technology, Cochin on the 17th of August 2021. The festival brings together the flavours and hues across the state. Amidst this pandemic, JD Cochin brought within the pure spirit of this festival by bringing their students into one online platform with various creative competitions.
The Onam Festival, calls within the tradition of girls wearing Kerala set mundu/Kerala saree with golden kasavu borders, and men wearing Golden Kasavu mundu paired with ethnic kurta or shirts. the thought behind the competition was by keeping the normal essence with an ingenious element.
There were two events held on the online platform, they were:
Kerala Saree Styling
In this event, the scholars got a chance to explore different draping techniques which may be paired with western outfits and accessories. The evaluation criteria included Most stylized under which overall look, colour usage and usage of obtainable elements without losing truth essence of Onam and Most liked photo on social media (Instagram).
This was supported by the Onam theme, where students can use different elements to make an innovative layin composition. The evaluation criteria included best usage of products, Usage of colours concerning Theme, Aesthetics, Justification of concept, and photo quality. The prizes category for this event also included the foremost stylized flat lay and therefore the most liked photo on social media (Instagram).
Both of those events were conducted at two levels. Each event had 10 entries out of which the simplest 6 were chosen to manoeuvre forwards to level 2. These were posted on JD Cochin Instagram page and got a weeks’ time to make a decision on the foremost liked category.
As we always say, ‘Results from the simplest makes it special’.
The Awards Categories:
- The Most Stylized
- The Most Stylized Flat Lay
- The Most Socially Like Photograph
The most stylized category was judged by Mr. Vishnu, a Fashion illustrator currently working with the Sabyasachi label.
The most stylized flat lay category was judged by Ms. Anushree, an entrepreneur of an eco-friendly, handcrafted fashion and residential decor label Prapthvi, based in Kerala.
Ms. Leena Jawhrin from Bsc FD&GM bagged the title for the foremost Stylised Category.
Flat lay by Ms. Melita Ann Reji from Bsc FD&GM was chosen for the Flat Lay category.
The most socially liked photo on social media was awarded to Ms. Shruthi Sulochanan from Bsc FD & GM ( Kerala saree styling) and Mr. Gokul from Diploma in Interior design (Flat lay). Aside from these two categories, judges announced a special mention for the simplest ideation of the concept. Ms Soorya Sankar (Kerala saree styling) and Ms Pooja Suresh (Flat lay) from PGDFDBM won this category.
Onam celebrations in 2021 were pumped up by the schools and students of JD, Cochin by adorning themselves with the normal attire of Kerala. The message of affection and equity, plentitude and happiness, story of a kind-hearted and far beloved Mahabali was delivered to students. (Xanax)
