The students of fashion designing from JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Goa recently presented an exclusive Khadi collection at the International Centre of Goa. The collection was presented in front of various designers and textile experts such as Dr. Ela Dedhia, Dr. Heena Modi, Deepak Gotani, Amit Kaneria, to name a few who were also a part of the event.
Due to its handwoven quality, Khadi is a truly sustainable fabric with zero carbon footprint and is symbolic of a poignant stage in history. With the need for sustainability in todays times more than ever, the humble Khadi is finding its foray into the lives of the millennial.
Sustainability has been one of the core principles of JD and the institute encourages its students to be conscious creators. Through the Khadi initiative, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Goa has provided its students a platform to carve a new story with a zero waste draping that is devoid of stitch lines with asymmetrical style. Khadi is a versatile fabric and the modern silhouettes further added to the charm.
Complementing the ensemble were handmade statement jewellery pieces by the students of jewellery design who created select pieces of armlets, rings, bangles and neckpieces fashioned out of discarded wood and metal.
JD Institute of Fashion Technology’s endeavour has always been to provide students with a wholesome training along with real time experiences that helps them to explore their creativity and thrive as designers. Initiatives that bring to fore our country’s heritage designed by millennial budding fashion mavens gives a new spin to a fabric and break stereotypical ceilings associated with the fabric of the country.
