Learning to See, Not Just Shoot

The Canon Photography Workshop on April 16th was one of those sessions where students quickly realised photography isn’t just about clicking pictures—it’s about noticing details. Under the tutelage of Mr Mohan Dass Mathew and Mr Siltu Ghosh, the learners were introduced to the fundamentals of composition, light, and frame, but in a manner that came naturally to them through trial and error. Armed with their cameras, they experimented, made errors, corrected themselves, and kept trying until, finally, they learned the concept of storytelling through a single picture. For many, it changed the way they approach documenting their own design work.

When Fashion Meets the Future

In a completely different yet equally exciting space, the session on “Fashion Design in the Age of AI” by Divya Gulati opened up conversations about where the industry is headed. Instead of seeing technology as something distant or intimidating, students began to see it as a creative partner. From virtual styling to smarter wardrobe planning and culturally inclusive design, the session showed how AI is quietly reshaping fashion. More importantly, it reassured students that creativity still sits at the centre—it’s just being expressed through newer, smarter tools.

Working with Hands, Thinking with Purpose

The weaving workshop by Danish Cord India brought a slower, more tactile energy to the month. Led by Mr Govind SG, this class encouraged us to sit back, get our hands dirty, and make sense of what we were learning. Weaving using sustainable Danish cord that consists of bamboo fibre taught us the art of weaving, along with the study of patterns, texture, and structure. The process itself felt grounding – witnessing a basic material take shape and become something useful and visually pleasing.

Beyond Being a One-Month Program

It was not only the variety of workshops offered in April that was so remarkable; rather, it was the fact that each workshop brought something new to the table in terms of design learning. Whether through observation, envisioning the future, creation with one’s hands or any combination thereof, students had the opportunity to get involved in every facet of design and, perhaps in doing so, glimpse their creative potential.
