FOXY KYRA–Curator–JD Annual Design Awards 2019 | Fashion Design

“Beauty is how you feel inside and it reflects in your eyes.”

—- SOPHIA LOREN —-

Designers Amala Reji and Sruthy Saju’s collection, Foxy Kyra means sexually attractive woman and is a line of resort wear inspired by a bird called Trogon.

The trogons are found in the tropical and subtropical forests. They tend to show their less brightly coloured backs, as a defense against predators, however, they can turn their heads to 180 degrees. Though, known for their beauty, they are reclusive and seldom seen, nevertheless they are popular among birdwatchers.

Apart from their beauty, Trogons are also known for their colorful feather pattern. The designers have incorporated colours like red, blue, yellow and green associated with the bird in their collection. The bird is used as an allegory of inner beauty which it hides with its dull features, which is reflected in the garments with metallic translucent fabric. This aspect of the allegory has been used in the garments by the incorporation of the dull outer wear. The fabrics used for the collection are organza for outerwear and satin lycra for innerwear. The trogons are known to have a small body and long tails, the designers have incorporated this element of the bird in the garments. The garments are multi-purpose in nature as it can be worn as resort wear and beach wear or as swim suits. The collection is an ode to the inner beauty reflected by women.
