On 5th September 2019, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, celebrated Teachers Day along with Onam for its students, staff and faculties alike.

The students along with the faculties were decked up in traditional finery. From Kasavu sarees to ethnic attire, the students and faculties were high on traditional fashion. Pookalam is one of the highlights during the festival where every Malayali house decorates their courtyard with elaborate rangoli made traditionally with flowers. Hence, keeping this element in mind, the institute organised a pookalam decoration competition for the students of JD.

The variations in the pookalams created by the students were mesmerising. Some students decorated their pookalams with flowers, whereas some used coloured organic salt granules, food colours, mustard seeds. One of the pookalam was decorated with tea, due to the wide spread tea plantations and spices which are inherent to Kerala. There was a group that used a combination of water and oil to create to create a water pookalams. The decorations were judged by Mr. Pramod Adhikari, Mentor at JD Institute; Ms Suma Satish, Academics In-charge, JD South and Dr. Anusuya K, Head of Department Fashion.

Post the judging, the students celebrated teachers day, wherein they honoured the faculties. After cake cutting, the students put up some energetic performances for the faculties with some foot thumping music. The enthusiasm of the students also rubbed off on some of our faculties and staff who put up some impromptu dance and song performance. Mr. Babu Rajendra Prasad, Principal of JD, gave a life anecdote about how we need to have confidence in ourselves to make decision rather than relying on anyone else.

The evening came to an end with the announcements of the winners of the Pookalam participants. The function was a fun celebration where the faculties, staff and students enjoyed to the fullest.
