The collection Rethishq of JD Design Awards 2022 was designed by Himani B and Rithika S from BSc FAD. Their inspiration is Paper Pollution and Vegetable waste. Their concept is based on sustainability. The designers showcased sustainability in their garments by using recycled papers and vegetable waste peels to dye their fabric and papers. They implemented their concept in their garments as a decorative and embellishment by recycling the paper and by dyeing the paper using vegetable waste. Both the recycling and dyeing of paper is done by the designers themselves. By using paper, the designers try to convey that the paper recycling can change the whole world and we can also reduce, recycle and reuse paper and use it in many ways and they also wanted to convey that natural dyes are biodegradable, eco-friendly, nontoxic, renewable and sustainable and it can also be used to colour the textiles. The colour palette that they followed is neutral and bright. Their colour palette has red, brown, goldenish brown.
According to the designers the collection looks like desert romance by the colours of it and the colours of their embellishments. Their collections are of skin-tight garments, flowy garments, asymmetric garments and also the garments that have veils and flounces at the back. The key elements that the designers have in their garments are mirrors, transparency, open neck, falling sleeves and so on. The fabrics that they have used to make their garments are cotton and satin and for embellishments they added flowers on their garments which are created using recycled papers. They faced a lot of challenges as it was their first collection display. They had a nice experience and they also have learnt many things like how to source things, how to put the ideas and how to organise things while working for their collection, says the designers.
