BIORAMAS – CURATOR – JDADA 2019

“Accidents often produce the best solutions. Only you can recognize the difference between an accident and your original intent.”

—- Jennifer Morla —-

Designer Tejas N’s collection “Bioramas” means the collection of x-ray portraits of flora and fauna. The collection is a line of resort wear inspired by “X-ray Art” created by Dutch physicist Arie  van’t  Riet.

In the late 1990s, van’t Riet, during a routine teaching programme, found that very thin objects could also be imaged using very low energy X-rays. The initial art that he created resembled a black and white negative. After few years, he improvised the outcome wherein he digitized, inverted, and then colorized these images in Photoshop. This led to progress in quality image x-rays.

The designer drew inspiration from x-ray art and thus created a collection using this medium. The collection encompasses the technique of the unique art form to create a composition of flowers, plants, animals and birds. It also portrays the complexity and beauty of nature around us. The garments of the collection have been created using UV protective and recycled plastic. The colours used for the garments are white and translucent/sheer, whereas for the prints the colours that have been used are yellow, orange, red, purple, green and grey.
