Coventry collection presented at JD Design Awards was designed by Chandana N and Balaka Rachita Reddy from B SC FAD. The inspiration for their collection is coral. Their concept is cancer survivors and how they fight to survive. The collections of the designers were women’s wear Spring Summer that inspires the younger generation. The colours of their collection were from the ribbons of AACR (American Associations of Cancer Research) representing awareness for various types of cancer. They primarily focus on raising awareness for cancer, especially colon cancer by making use of the colour blue. The collection is of evening wear with cuts, fabric embellished surface and also draping. They came up with four different types of cancers such as colon cancer, breast cancer and a few colours for the cancers like pink, green, yellow, purple and blue which represents colon cancer, the designers.
The designers worked on various steps before choosing their inspiration. They worked on mind mapping to come up with inspiration. The designers felt tricky and confused at the beginning before choosing the topic so they did a lot of research on what they can do with the coral as it is just an aquatic animal and after intense research, they found that there is more medicine that is coming up to treat cancers. They decided to discover more corals and their benefits. The designers say that they faced more difficulty at the beginning and they didn’t have much idea on corals but at last they felt very happy and satisfied to work on this topic and their collections came out exactly how they wanted it to be.
