By Bhakti Acharya – BSc in Fashion Design Graduate
Looking back at my journey with JD Institute, I feel incredibly grateful for all the learning, experiences, and opportunities that have shaped me into the designer I am today. My path to fashion design wasn’t as straightforward as I initially imagined. I came into JD with an open mind and a desire to explore, but I had no idea that my passion for design would flourish in such a profound way.
From the very first day, the environment at JD Institute inspired me. The professors weren’t just educators; they were mentors who took the time to understand my strengths and challenges. They didn’t just teach technical skills — they nurtured my creativity and encouraged me to break boundaries in my designs. Whether it was about understanding the nuances of garment construction or refining my aesthetic, every piece of advice pushed me one step closer to discovering my design identity.
The JD Design Awards were the ultimate test of my skills. It was the culmination of everything I had learned at the institute, and it was also a time of intense personal growth. The theme for the year pushed me to explore sustainability in fashion, which was an area I had always wanted to delve into. Working on my collection was an emotional journey — it made me realise how important it is to design with purpose and meaning. The entire process, from conceptualisation to execution, taught me the value of patience, perseverance, and staying true to my ideas.
JD Institute also instilled in me the importance of collaboration and teamwork. Throughout my journey, I learned that every success was the result of collective effort — whether it was working alongside my classmates, engaging with faculty, or receiving feedback from industry professionals. Each of these interactions helped refine my work and allowed me to grow as both a designer and an individual.
Today, I stand proud of the designer I’ve become, and I owe it all to the foundation JD Institute provided me. I’ve learned that fashion is not just about creating beautiful garments — it’s about telling a story, making an impact, and bringing something meaningful to life.
