JD Design Awards 2022 with its this year’s theme of Sync with nature, gave a humongous opportunity to the designers to present their design sensibility. The designers Pushpanjali Gupta and Megha N for the grand platform curated a collection named Luminoquatic which means sea of stars. They wanted to make a statement about nature’s beauty.
The Luminoquatic collection is inspired by the Mudhdhoo island in the Maldives. The water known as the sea of stars depicts an enchanting otherworldly visual. The mesmerising beach is covered with tiny micro organisms. These bioluminescent creatures use chemical energy that emits light when exposed to oxygen and as a result cause a chemical reaction emitting a beautiful glow.
The fabric manipulation is inspired by the tidal beach waves replicating the movements of the aquatic body. This collection is wearable avant garde depicting the subtle colour of the island. The designers have used embroidery also on top of the fabric which they are dying so that it can glow in the dark.
