From Dreams to Reality: My Journey at JD Institute of Fashion Technology

By Naman Kothari – Graduate in Fashion Design

Every designer has a dream, and mine was to create fashion that tells a story. When I decided to pursue fashion design, I was searching for a place that would not only teach me the technical skills but also nurture my creativity and push my boundaries. JD Institute of Fashion Technology turned out to be that place.

My experience at JD Institute has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the very first day, I felt the excitement in the air. The environment was filled with passion, creativity, and a shared desire to innovate. I could sense that I was in the right place, surrounded by like-minded individuals who wanted to change the world through fashion. The faculty at JD Institute played a pivotal role in my growth. They weren’t just instructors; they were mentors who guided me through every step of the process, from learning the basics of design to conceptualising my collection.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned at JD Institute was the importance of blending creativity with practicality. Fashion is not just about beautiful designs; it’s also about solving problems and meeting the needs of the people. This was made evident during various workshops and projects where we were encouraged to think beyond aesthetics. For instance, during my final year project, I focused on sustainability, aiming to create a collection that was both innovative and environmentally conscious. This project was a turning point in my journey, as it pushed me to think critically about the future of fashion and how we, as designers, can make a positive impact.

The JD Design Awards were a major highlight of my time at JD Institute. The competition gave me a platform to showcase my work and interact with professionals from the industry. I remember the anxiety before the event — the fear of whether my designs would be good enough. But once I took the stage and presented my collection, I felt a sense of accomplishment. It was a moment of validation, not only from the judges but from myself. I realised how much I had grown, not just as a designer but as an individual.

JD Institute has not only helped me realise my potential as a designer but has also given me the confidence to pursue my dreams. I’m excited to embark on this new chapter of my career, knowing that I am well-equipped to make a mark in the fashion world.
