World Bamboo Day is celebrated on 18th September every year to commemorate one of the widely adopted types of raw materials. Bamboo is certainly one of the few natural materials in nature that poses high levels of versatility.
Bamboo is a core character of the design world. The minute one hears the word bamboo, their mind immediately goes to furniture. The significance of bamboo in the world of interiors cannot be sidelined. The process of interior design constitutes this sustainable material in multitudinous elements of interior design.
While we understand the relevance of bamboo in shaping a more sustainable world, JD Institute of Fashion Technology in Bengaluru has time and again introduced to its students creative and innovative concepts in the loop of bamboo. In the light of building bamboo as a sustainable material, we bring to you the works of some of our finest students who seized the opportunity thrown at them and came up with interesting applications of bamboo in the field of interior design.
‘Bambusa’ College Seater
Sustainability is at the core of bamboo production and application. Understanding this critical aspect, designers G. Kartikeyan and R.J. Dhevapriya, students from Post Graduate Diploma in Interior and Spatial Design designed their product ‘Bambusa’ college seater at JD Annual Design Awards 2019.
This little application of bamboo is inspired by the oldest Bamboo Weaving Craft in India. This Multi-functional seater through their product believes that their bamboo design fulfills the category of proper seating facility along with socket availability at schools and colleges. This design also won the ‘Most Sustainable Award’ at JD Annual Design Awards 2019.
A Multipurpose Rack by ‘Round the Wheel’
A multipurpose rack designed by two students from Diploma in Interior Design, Divika Bamboli and Namita Shah came up with this application of bamboo lingering around the theme ‘future origins.’
The Multi-Functional Rack lends a cool yet nostalgic feel because the color combination reflects bamboo in its native form itself. This way, the earthy and natural finish of the product is achieved.
World Bamboo Day is a global reminder to human race to turn to this sustainable material to furnish their interiors. This natural material is also a significant catalyst in attaining sustainable fashion.
