Activists From Another World- Sync- JD Design Awards 2022

Designers Jaivika Satish and Aditya Raj Singh from BSc Fashion and Apparel Design 2019 took the path of visualizing a future and making a statement for the JD Design Awards 2022 with the theme Sync. It’s September 2035, and everyone has spent hours watching the news. The news shows the same ten people, all dressed in unique power suits. These people claim to be activists from another world. They look to have invaded the planet to raise environmental and wellness consciousness, which is precisely what their costumes represent: safeguarding our land, water, air, and, most importantly, ourselves. The collection straddles two parallels: these activists appear to be powerful and harsh to our humanity, while also being here to save us from extinction. This collection was created to raise awareness on how critical it is for humanity to wake up, with a special emphasis on the power of the voice and activism.

“We only lose if we stop fighting”

The styles they showcase are cyber, Avante Garde and fantasy. The potential colours used are brown, shades of blue, red, purples, orange, grey/metal, pink. The aesthetic the designers
inputted are space and universe, chrome, cyber, fantasy and sci-fiction. This concept is based on a science fictional story, dealing with people in a parallel universe facing destruction with very much technological advanced problems and they are experiencing a lot of consequences because of the e – waste that they have generated and used. So what if they travel and come here and they decide to spread the message as an activist to help us not to reach the level of what they are facing there. And the collection is for the activists who are travelling and lots of e- waste is used in the outfits. This is to show that we can help people use the e- waste into fashion and that’s what the designers want to convey. Inspired by garments that are used in science fiction movies. They have used pink to show that the activists are bold and confident and grey is to denote the e-waste, jute is to create balance with the grounded aesthetic. Fabrics chosen are satin, lycra and organic cotton. The majestic idea is the Avante Garde collection in the JD Design Awards.
