LIVE MANNEQUIN STYLING BY THE STUDENTS OF FASHION DESIGN AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
The students of Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing and Business Management 2019 batch presented a live mannequin styling display and a Capsule Wardrobe presentation.
Fashion styling is a medium used to create, choose, or co-ordinate styles for individuals, fashion houses, and clothing brands whereas, Capsule Wardrobe is a practice of editing your wardrobe down to your favourite clothes and remixing them regularly. Rather than doing a very basic and common shoot, students experimented by styling live mannequins using capsule wardrobe. But for the students to pull off this concept was very eye catchy and tremendous and especially the models who had to stand without quivering to represent mannequins.
Athleisure Wear
Who doesn’t like basic colours? Breaking the monotone colour of athleisure wear, students gave very bright coloured footwear to the mannequin that also created a subtle hue in her outfit including the accessories, and also shows a bit of a fun side because who doesn’t need motivation while working out? The students added a few elements like the earplugs and a jacket around her waist with a simple high ponytail. They chose this outfit from their capsule wardrobe which can be recreated using denim pants and a black jacket with few accessories and can be paired with sunglasses and a fanny pack to make it look casual wear.
Street Style
The theme represented street style where you can wear whatever clothing you want as long as you are comfortable with it. The students styled the mannequin with a high waist skirt, knee-length boots, and a jacket. Keeping in mind the skin tone of the live mannequin, students gave her big hoop earrings that would also match the outfit. The backdrop with CDs and papers from the novels provided a very vintage. The CDs also complimented her small oval sunglasses. When coming to the capsule wardrobe, students chose clothing that are easy to create a look that can be transformed from a day to night look effortlessly. The red animal top with orange pants, sandals and the addition of few accessories, Voila! She is ready to go.!
Lady Boss
“I am not bossy, I am the Boss”.
The students created a ‘Lady boss’ styled outfit that showed power, strength, and fierceness. They chose a monochrome colour scheme that included shades and tones of white and black which is a powerful colour to create a bold and fashionable look. The presentation also included a flat lay that consisted of elements for a lady boss to carry out work during her daily routine.
Contemporary Fashion
The theme centered around contemporary fashion and represented the concept of fusion wear. The mannequin was styled to break the normal clothing style and mix and match the top and bottom with an Indian influence in one outfit that was draped in an indo-western style and was accessorised with a metal waist gold belt that matched the outfit perfectly. Keeping in mind their client’s choices they created a cluster where the red off-shoulder top could be worn as a blouse for the same outfit with a denim jacket as an overcoat.
Smart Casual
The look centred around smart casual work wear wherein the live mannequin was styled in denim jeans and shirt. Inorder to provide an alternate post-work ensemble the team created a cluster consisting of a knit top that can be paired with the denim jeans and a choice of accessories. The choice of apparel and backdrop was carefully curated for the autumn-winter season.
The Live Mannequin styling display was a colourful manifestation of varied themes undertaken by the students with an out of the box presentation. The activity in practice presented with a medium to understand fashion styling, aesthetics and the creation of varied looks from a capsule wardrobe.
